PROJECT PROFILE: THE HILL-STEAD MUSEUM
The Hill-Stead museum is located in the sprawling home of Theodate Pope Riddle, one of America's earliest and most notable female architects. It is a living testament to her life and times as well as that of her family, particularly her father who was an early champion and collector of Impressionist art. Today it remains furnished as it was in the late 19th/early 20th century - including priceless furniture, books, and paintings by Monet, Degas, Manet, Cassat, and Whistler. As part of $2.5 million exterior restoration and public access project, Aaslestad provided the museum with a complete set of HABS style drawings including plans, sections, elevations, detail drawings and ortho-photography. The scope of work included the main house and barns as well as a variety of support structures.
